Kevin and Rob did a discfit run through the course at 7:15. Even though it was cold, they worked up a sweat.

They were joined by Paul L, Paul W, David M, Jim and Jeremy for an awesome time in the word. One focus was discussing what Paul meant by the secret of contentment in Philippians 4.

Only Paul W, Rob and Kevin were able to play the round.

Kevin earned the first 6 skins, highlighted by an eagle on one and a birdie on six.

Then the skins began to stack with birdies and pars.

On 14, Rob’s drive landed about ten feet from the basket. He sunk his putt for 8 skins.

Paul W. earned a skin on 15 with a beautiful drive and putt.

Rob missed his birdie putt on 16, but using his mulligan, he earned a skin, giving him 9 and Pig Skin.

Well played.

The time ended with prayer time on hole 19.

November 1st, 2019

Paul L, Paul W, Jim and Rob spent time soaking in God’s word, Colossians, Romans 8 and Genesis 12. They reminded each other that God’s nearness is our good.

Jim had to leave, but Kevin, Scott and Russ joined for the round. In spite of the down pour the night before, the weather was sunny and a bit chilly. Only Rob ventured out in shorts.

After a whole lot of birdies carried the skins, Scott wrapped up the Big Boy on hole ten, taking them all. He says he doesn’t want to win each week because the Pig Skin winner must contribute 50 cents and he’s on a bit of a winning streak.

Other than Scott, most of the other golfers were struggling with their scores.

Rob earned 3 skins with a birdie on 13. Paul L won all the other skins giving him 5 overall.

Going into hole 18, Kevin was at -4  and Rob and Paul L were at -3. Kevin birdied 18, earning him Big Boy and Paul L. came in second with -4.

Well played Wallace boys.

October 18, 2019

Rob and Ben began the chilly morning at 7:30, running through the course and doing jumping jacks for exercise.

David, Paul L, Paul W and Jim joined Ben and Rob for a time of coffee and truth before the match. Among other verses the crew encouraged each other with truths from  Colossians 1, Romans 8 and Psalm 16.

Jim had to go to work, but Kevin and Russ joined the gang for the round. Birdies on hole one and two stacked skins. Kevin got the only birdie on  three and earned three skins.

Russ’s drive on hole four hit a tree, but when he sunk a long putt, he won a skin. Then the skins began to stack. After hole 10, six skins were stacked up as the players reentered the forest. However, they took a moment to enjoy chicken biscuits provided by Mrs. Buck. Thanks Betsy.

Birdies on 11, 12 and 13 kept the skins stacking. Hole 14 was worth 10 skins. Kevin and Paul L both had beautiful drives on 14, Kevin’s a bit long but dry and Paul’s about ten feet away. Both missed their putts. Using his mulligan, Paul sunk his putt. Kevin also used his mulligan, but missed his putt. So Paul earned 10 skins and Pig Skin. Congratulations Paul.

With a birdie, Paul W. won a skin on 15. Kevin earned two more skins with a nice eagle on 17. Rob earned a skin with a closest to the pin birdie on 18.

Rob won Big Boy with a -8. Kevin ended with a -5 and 5 skins.

The fantastic morning was capped off with prayer at hole 19.

October 11, 2019

Very exciting morning at Buck Forest. The weather was fantastic.

The two Pauls, David M. and Rob had great fellowship before the round, sharing Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 37:4 and revisiting Habakkuk 3:17-19. The coffee was flowing and the Living Word was encouraging hearts.

Kevin, Scott and David S. joined the group for the round.

For the first time Pig Skin and Big Boy were placed on the first basket in anticipation of the awards ceremony. So they had first hand experience for what happened. When Scott teed off on 1, Jim’s truck emerged from his driveway blocking our sight, so we didn’t get the full affect. But for the first time ever, there was a hole in one on hole number 1. Great job Scott!

Now we’re wondering if hole 1 should be a par 3. Perhaps we should move the tee pad back a bit.

So of course, Scott earned the first skin and Kevin earned 1 on hole two with a birdie. Then the skins began to stack with birdies on 3,4,5,6,7,8. Zach, a friend of Scott’s  joined us on hole 7 as a first time player. It was great having him join us and we hope he returns.

Scott had the only birdie on 9, so that gave him 8 skins to Kevin’s one.

Paul W. earned skins on hole 13 assuring Pig Skin would once again go to Scott.

Kevin and Paul L battled it out for Big Boy with Kevin prevailing -10 to -8.

Well played.

Zach,  Paul L, Paul W and Rob ended a beautiful morning with prayer at Hole 19.

October 4, 2019

The fall Buck Forest season began today, but the weather was anything but fall like.

Before the game, Ben, David M, Paul L, Paul W, Rob and David S. spent time encouraging one another with God’s word and prayer. Amoung verses mentioned were Col. 1:28-29, Matthew 28:19-20 and Habakkuk 3:17-19.

Ben had to go to work, but James, Kevin and Scott joined the crew for the game.

Scott threw his drive past the basket on hole one and sunk a beautiful putt for an eagle, earning  the first skin.

Skins were stacked on 2 and then Paul W. won 2 skins with a birdie on 3. Birdies stacked the skins on 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Paul L. had a beautiful drive on 9 and almost earned 6 skins except for a desperation putt by Rob.

Kevin birdied hole 10 and won 7 skins when Rob missed his  mulligan putt.

The crew paused for Betsy B.’s cookies and refreshment, as  James and David M. had to leave.

Multiple birdies stacked the skins until hole 17. With a drive past the basket and a nice putt, Scott got an eagle and 7 skins, giving him 8. Only Kevin could possibly catch him with a drive closer to the pin on 18. David S. almost had a hole in one when his disc when through the chains, earning him the skin and cementing  Pig Skin for Scott.

Being a pro player, Scott agreed to only play for Pig Skin, kindly yielding Big Boy to others. Heading to 18, Rob and Paul W. both had a -11. Paul W’s drive was closer to the pin and he appeared destined for victory.  But when Rob sunk his putt and Paul W’s bounced out, Big Boy went to Rob.

The morning ended with some heartfelt prayer at hole 19.

May 17, 2019

Paul W. Rob and Paul L. enjoyed time in God’s word and praying before the match.

Kevin and Russ joined for the game. So five golfers  finish out the season.

Skins stacked until Paul L. birdied 6 and earned 6 skins. Russ earned 2 skins on 8 with a birdie and Kevin birdied 10 for 2 skins.

Skins stacked again until Rob birdied 14 for 4 skins. Skins stacked on 15. Rob and Paul L. had strong drives on 16, but Rob’s disc jumped the wall and landed in the creek beyond the basket. Paul sunk his putt, giving him 2 more skins and a total of 8. No one could catch him. Pig Skin and all the money inside was his.

Going into Rob was at -6 and Kevin was at -5. But after the water penalty and a missed putt by Rob, they were tied going into 17. Kevin birdied and Rob parred, so Kevin had a one stroke lead going into 18.

Kevin birdied 18 to finish with a -7, earning Big Boy. Russ earned the skins by way of CTTP.

Congratulations Kevin and Paul L. Well played.

As previously agreed, the winner of Pig Skin on the last day of the season would get all the quarters inside, roughly $4.00.

May 2, 2019

It was a small group Friday morning. Paul W. Rob and Paul L. enjoyed time speaking truth to each other and praying.

Paul L. had to leave for a school function. Kevin joined Paul W. and Rob for the match.

Kevin had an Eagle on hole one and earned a skin. Skins stacked until Rob earned 3 on hole 4. Skins stacked again until Paul W. earned 8 on hole 12. He earned 3 more on 15 giving him Pig Skin.

Rob won Big Boy with a -4.

Congratulations gentlemen.

The season ends on May 17th.

April 26, 2019

Jim, Paul W. Rob and Paul L. spent time catching up and discussing truth in the 8:00 hour.

Jim and Paul L. had to leave before the match, but  Russ, Chad, Trey and Kevin joined.  Everyone prayed for Paul W’s back. Because he had to be gentle, Kevin suggested everyone get 1 Paul putt along with their mulligan for the round. That way, if a putt is missed, Paul can putt for you. All decided it was a good idea and the new rule was incorporated.

David S joined in time to throw from hole one. Skins were stacked on 1 and when Rob used his Paul putt, they were stacked on 2 as well.

Skins were stacked on 3,4,5,6 and 7, as several people used their Paul putt to keep the skins stacking.

Kevin and Rob had good drives on 8, but Rob missed his putt. Since he’d already used his mulligan and Paul putt, Kevin gained 8 skins.

By hole 10, Kevin gained his 10th skin, securing Pig Skin for the week.

Skins were stacked on 11 and Kevin gained his 12th skin on hole 12 with a birdie.

Kevin was on a birdie streak. And when he used his mulligan and his Paul putt on 15, his streak continued. His par on 16 broke his streak.

Going into 18, the skins were stacked so the winner would earn 6 skins and second place in the Pig Skin contest.

Paul  and Russ had good drives, but since Paul was closer and sunk his  birdie putt, he earned 6 skins.

Kevin also won Big Boy with an impressive -13. Russ and Rob tied for second at -5

Congratulations Kevin; Excellent day

April 12, 2019

The morning began with some great discussions about feelings and truth. And since it rained until 10:00, we had a larger group for fellowship than usual – Jim, Paul W. Jeremy, Rob, Paul L, Kevin and Russ.

Jeremy and Jim could not join for the golf round.

Kevin earned the first four skins with a birdie on hole 4. Russ earned a skin on hole number 5. Paul W. had to leave after hole 6. Rob earned 2 skins on hole number 7.

Skins stacked until Kevin birdied hole 10 and earned 3 more skins. Russ and Paul L. had to leave after that.

Kevin and Rob forged ahead and after hole 15, they were completely tied. Bot had 7 skins and were at -6.

Skins stacked on 16,  but then Kevin birdied hole 17.  Rob missed his putt so Kevin had to drop another quarter in Pig Skin and take him home.

Going into 18, Kevin was at -7 and  Rob was at -6. Rob birdied 18 and Kevin parred. Since Rob was CTP, Big Boy was his.

Congratulations gentlemen.

March 29, 2019

Beautiful spring day at Buck Forest.

The two Pauls, Jim and Rob spent some time praying and catching up.

Paul W. and Jim didn’t play, but Kevin and David joined Paul L. and Rob for the match.

Birdies stacked the first 3 holes. Rob had to use his mulligan to get a birdie on 4 and gain 4 skins.

Birdies on 5, pars on 6 and birdies on 7 stacked the skins. Rob missed a birdie putt on 8 stacking the skins again.

Paul L. had a great drive on 9 and was posed to earn 5 skins, but Kevin saved the skins with a great long putt. Then Kevin earned 6 skins with a birdie on 10.

Birdies on 11 and 12  stacked the skins and Rob earned 3 more skins with a birdie on 13.

Pars stacked a skin on 14. Then Rob won 2 more skins with a birdie on 15. Going into 16, Rob had 9 skins, Kevin had 6.

Rob’s drive on 16 stirred up a nest of yellow jackets and he missed a putt among them. Birdies stacked the skins on 17.

Going into 18, Rob was at -11, Kevin was at -8. 3 skins were on the line.

Rob’s drive bounced off the barn and landed a couple of feet from the pin. Kevin’s drive was wide right. Both Kevin and Rob birdied, but since Rob was CTTP, he won Pig Skin and Big Boy.

March 22, 2019

Another exciting day at Buck Forest.

The two Pauls, David and Rob spent some time before the match soaking in God’s great love for his sons. They were amazed at how much He loves them.

Kevin joined for the match. Paul walked the course because his back is not quit healed. Second Wind trucks were in the driveway because the Bucks are getting a new heat pump.

Paul L. got an eagle on hole and nabbed the first skin. Rob earned a skin on hole 2 with a birdie. All had pars on 3. Rob birdied 4 and 5 giving him 3 skins and a total of 4.

Skins stacked on 6 and 7, then Kevin birdied 8 to earn 3 skins.

Pars on 9. The Kevin and Paul L. birdied 10. Several birdied 11 and 12. Hole 13 was worth 5 skins. Paul  L. birdied. With his mulligan, Kevin missed two putts, so  Paul L earned 5 skins, brining his total to 6.

Pars on 14 and 15. Paul L. got a birdie on 16, brining his total to 9 skins and earning him Pig Skin.

Going into 17, Kevin and Rob were at -5, Paul L. was at -3. Paul L. eagled, Kevin birdied and Rob Parred.

Going into 18,  Kevin was at -6, Rob and Paul L. were at -5.

Paul L. had a nice drive on 18. Kevin’s drive was beyond and to the right. Rob’s drive was a feet behind Paul L’s. Kevin missed his putt. Rob made his, but so did Paul L. Since he was CTP he earned Big Boy as well.

Congratulations Paul L.

March 15, 2019

Exciting day today including a hole in one and two snakes. Don’t worry, the snakes weren’t  poisonous.

Paul L, Jim, Jeremy and Rob met before the match and enjoyed great conversations about depending on and waiting on God.

Jim and Jeremy had to leave before the match. Kevin and Russ  joined. It was a fabulous spring like day.

Skins got stacked on the first 4 holes. A garter snake showed up at basket 3. Kevin shot a birdie on hole 5 and earned the first  5 skins.

After skins were stacked on 6, Paul L earned 2 skins with a birdie  on 7. Skins were stacked on 8.

While Rob was showing the new chicks to others, Kevin went a ahead and threw on 9. He aced it, but since no one saw it, there was no eruption of cheers. Very impressive HIO. Only the second on hole 9 in course history.

We saw another small garter snake walking up  to 9.

Going into 10, Kevin had 7 skins and Paul L  2.

Pars on 10 and birdies on 11,12 and 13 stacked the skins.

Russ had a fantastic drive on 14 and even though Rob tried to save the skins with a swing shot, he earned 5 skins.

Skins stacked on and 15. Rob used his mulligan to birdie 16 for 2 skins.

Russ and Rob eagled 17. So 18 was worth 2 skins. Kevin had virtually sown up the Big Boy, but it was down to closest to the pin between Kevin and Russ for Pig Skin.

Russ started off with a nice drive, but Kevin’s drive was closer, about 3 feet away. Russ used his mulligan and parked it 2 feet away. Kevin still had his mulligan, but couldn’t get it closer than Russ. Russ earned the last 2 skins and Pig Skin.

Kevin finished with -12. Russ  had his personal best with -10. Rob had a -8 and Paul L -6.

Congratulations Kevin and Russ.

February  22nd and March 1st

Didn’t update the website last week, so I forgot the details.

I know it came down to the last hole between Paul L and Kevin and that Kevin earned both trophies. Congratulations Kevin.

Russ using the swing option on hole 14.

March 1, 2019

Jim, Paul W and Rob enjoyed time in the word and prayer prior to the match.

Jim and Paul W. had to leave, but Russ and Kevin joined for the game.

Kevin eagled 1 and birded 2, giving him 2 skins.

Rob birded 3 giving him 1 skin. Russ and Kevin birdied 4.  Rob and Kevin birdied 5 and all parred 6. But then Kevin birdied 7 giving him 4 more skins.

Rob and Russ birdied 8 and everyone parred 9, But then Kevin birdied 10 to give him a total of 9 skins.

Birdies stacked the skins on 11 and 12, but then Rob birdied 13 to give him 4 skins.

Then it began to rain pretty steadily.

Pars stacked the skins on 14 and 15. Russ and Kevin bogeyed 16 and Rob parred giving him 7 skins going into 17.

Russ and Rob birded 17 and Kevin parred.

Going into the last hole Kevin and Rob were at -7, Kevin had 9 skins and Rob had 7 skins. But Kevin still had his mulligan.

Rob’s drive landed 7 yards from the basket. Kevin’s first shot went right. He used his mulligan and ended up 9 yards away. Rob sunk his putt. He ended up -8 and 9 skins. Kevin ended up at -7 with 9 skins, but CTP broke the tie.

The rain was a definitely a factor. The threesome prayed in the garage instead of the deck.

February 15th, 2019

Paul L, Paul W and Rob enjoyed an hour of soaking on eternal truth before the match. They ended praying for folks who are close to them, but far from God.

David and Russ joined for the Big Boy Pig Skin challenge.

Paul L. nabbed an early skin with an eagle on hole 1.

The skins stacked on 2 and 3 with several birdies.

David had a beautiful drive on hole 4 and earned 3 skins.

Russ had a birdie on 5 and earned a skin.

The skins stacked again until hole 9. Paul L. drove right under the basket for a birdie, earning 4 skins.

The count after 9 – Paul L 5, David 3 and Russ 1.

Paul L earned his 6th skin with a birdie on 10. Hole 11 was temporarily skipped because work was being done on the barn electricity.

Several birdies were shot on hole 12. Then Paul L. earned two more skins on 13, giving him 8.

Going into 14, Russ and Paul L. were at -5, Rob and Paul W. were at -4.  From then on skins continued to stack and Russ went on a birdie streak.

After the previously skipped hole 11, there were 6 skins riding on hole 18. Only David could possibly catch Paul L.

At that point Russ was at – 9 and Rob the closest at -6.

Paul L. got a birdie and took all 6 skins, giving him a total of 14 and Pig Skin. Russ finished with a -9 and Big Boy.

Well played gentlemen.

Big Boy on the way home with Russ

February 8, 2019

Four great surprises this morning.

  1. Jeremy, whose wife just had their 5th child, a son, showed up for our fellowship and truth time. It was great to see him.
  2. Chad also came for the early our and the golf round. He added so much to our discussion, plus he brought sausage biscuits.
  3. Scott showed up, after a long absence to join us for the golf round.
  4. The weather was spring like.

Paul W, Paul L, Rob, Chad and Jeremy were in the early session. Kevin and Scott joined for the golf round.

This weeks challenge didn’t go down to the wire the way the last few weeks went.

Pig Skin

Scott earned a skin on hole number 1 with an Eagle. Kevin picked up 3 skins on hole number 4. Then Scott earned  2 more skins with a birdie on 6.

Then the skins began to stack all the way to 14. Paul W’s drive went beyond the basket but dry. When he sank his putt and Kevin missed his, Paul W. earned 8 skins and won Pig Skin.

Scott did some sacrificial searching for Paul L’s disc, which turned out to be 20 feet down the creek. But he did find Kevin’s disc from a previous week. Thanks Scott.

Rob picked up a skin on hole 15 and Paul W. picked up 2 more with an eagle on 17. Great job Paul W.

Big Boy

Kevin, Scott and Paul W. had the best scores. Kevin ended up with a -9 and Paul with a -7. Scott wasn’t competing for the trophy. So Kevin earned Big Boy. Well played Kevin.

February 1, 2019

The race for Pig Skin was settled  on hole 17, but Big Boy came down to hole 18.

The morning started out with words of God’s glory. Jim led the discussion with Paul L, Paul W, Rob, Jeremy  and David as they talked about God’s glory and how we can glorify God. Good words Jim and great verses and book passages brought in by everyone. The group left the gathering with warm hearts ready to face the chilly morn.

JIm had to leave, but Kevin and Russ joined for the challenge.

After several birdies on 1, Paul L. earned his first 2 skins on hole 2. Then after the skins were stacked on 3, Russ shot the only birdie on 4 and earned 2 skins. The 2 skin trend was repeated when Jeremy used his mulligan to earn 2 skins on hole 6.

Then the skins began to stack. However, Rob had to use his mulligan to save the skins on hole 9. Hole 12 was worth 6 skins. Kevin was afraid his drive was in the creek, so he shot a provisional mulligan which landed a few feet from the basket. His first shot was under water so his second shot was in play. Rob missed a putt, so Kevin earned 6 skins.

David had a fantastic drive on 13, and got a birdie. But when Paul L. got a birdie as well, the skin was stacked. Rob decided to use the new swing option on 14, when his disc landed across the creek, but he missed the putt. No birdies on 14, so the skins were stacked.

Jeremy had a nice drive on 15, landing only a few feet from the basket. It looked like he’d gain the 3 stacked skins and bring his count to 5. However, when his disc went through the chains and Paul L. sunk a long putt, Paul L was the one with 5 skins.

Going into hole 16, Kevin had 6 skins and Paul L. was right behind him with 5. For the score, Paul L. and Rob were at -4 and Kevin was at -3.

Paul L. and Kevin both birdied 16. Paul L. -5, Kevin and Rob -4 going into 17.

Kevin had a fabulous drive on 17 and got an eagle, earning 2 more skins and his second straight week of taking home Pig Skin. Paul L. and Rob got birdies.

It looked like it would be between Kevin and Paul L. for the Big Boy going into 18. Both were at -6 and Rob was at -5.

Kevin’s drive landed beyond the basket near the chicken run. Paul L. hit the tree right past the tee pad. Rob’s drive bounced off the barn and landed a few feet from the basket and he got a birdie. Kevin missed his putt, so he and Paul L both got pars.

Final scores Rob -6, Paul L -6 and Kevin -6, but since Rob had the tie breaker, landing closest to the pin, he kept Big Boy for the week.

Congratulations Kevin and  Rob.

The wonderful morning was completed with a great prayer time at Hole 19.

January 25, 2019

Another race for Pig Skin came down to hole 18. A tree made all the difference.

Paul L, Paul W, Rob and David had an encouraging time in the Word before the contest. David prayed for Paul W. as he would be meeting with his siblings later in the day.

Kevin joined for the game and was the first to gain skins with a birdie on hole 3. David found a disc he’d lost a few weeks ago around hole 4.

The next skins were earned on hole 7 by Paul W. where Kevin lost a disc. Skins got stacked on 8 and 9. Paul W. had to leave, taking his 4 skins with him.

Paul L. earned 3 skins with a birdie on 10. Skins were stacked on 11 and 12. Then Rob earned 3 skins with a birdie on 13 and 2 more with a birdie on 15.

So the skin count going into 16 was Rob 5, Paul W. 4, Paul L. 3 and Kevin 3. Kevin was at -8 and Rob was at -6.

Skins were stacked on 16. Then Kevin earned 2 skins and went to -10 with a beautiful drive and an eagle on 17.

It would be down to closest to the pin between Rob and Kevin for the skin race, both having 5.

Kevin opened up and hit a tree before the Creek. It looked like it was a clear chance for Rob to win Pig Skin, but he choked, throwing his disc into the first tree.

Paul L. got a birdie and earned his 4th skin, but Kevin won both the awards.

Great job Kevin! The morning was completed by prayer at hole 19.

January 18, 2019

Great Challenge today. The winner of Pig Skin wasn’t determined until hole 18.

Paul L, Paul W, Rob and Jeremy had an encouraging time in the Word before the contest. They spent time speaking of rejoicing in the Lord and walking in the Spirit. Jeremy shared about the sermon he preached on Psalm 27.  Kevin joined for prayer.

Kevin started out strong and nabbed the first 3 skins. Then the skins started stacking.

On hole 9, Paul L had an amazing drive right under the basket. After using his mulligan, Rob’s drive was within putting distance. But when he missed his putt, Paul L nabbed 6 skins.

Then the skins began to stack again. Rob thought he had 3 skins on 12, but Paul W used his mulligan to keep them stacked.

By hole number 18. Paul L was sitting at -9. Kevin and Rob sat at -6, 9 skins were on the line.  Paul L had an advantage because he still had his mulligan.

Kevin’s drive was within 5 feet of the hole. Paul W hit a tree and Rob ended up on the wrong side of the barn. Paul L’s first drive appeared to be slightly further away from the hole than Kevin’s.

But Paul L used his mulligan and landed 3 feet from the hole, napping Pig Skin and Big Boy.

Well played Paul L. Congratulations!

Paul L. Paul W. Rob and Jeremy had an encouraging time in the Word before the contest. They spent time in Psalm 27:1-5, Luke 10:38-42, Romans 8:18, 2nd Corinthians 4:16-18 and Colossians 3:1-4. They discussed how to keep the Lord as our One Thing and how to encourage each other with truth when discouraged.

Jeremy couldn’t stay for the game, but Russ and Kevin joined the fun. It was a cold 31 degrees when the match began.

Kevin threatened to get the skins on hole 2, but Paul L. used his mulligan to save the skins. No worries for Kevin, he birdied hole 3 to grab 3 skins.

Russ was the only one who didn’t  hit a tree on hole 4 and grabbed a skin with a birdie.

Kevin grabbed his fourth skin on hole number 5 and the guys vowed to keep him with four skins the rest of the match. It wouldn’t happen (8^>.

Paul W. had a fantastic putt on hole number six to earn a skin.

The skins stacked with several birdies on holes 7 and 8.

With a beautiful drive, Kevin birdied hole number 9 and nabbed the 3 stacked skins giving him 7.

Pars stacked the skin on hole number 10 and birdies stacked them on 11.

Rob squeezed through the trees on his drive and birdied hole number 12 to grab 3 skins. He also had a long over head putt on 13. So he was the one with four skins. (8^0

Skins stacked on 14 with pars,  but when Rob birdied 15, he earned two more skins giving him 6.

Hole 16 was treacherous for all but Kevin. He earned his 8th skin with a par.

Skins were stacked on 17 with a couple of birdied. Going into hole 18, Kevin had 8 skins and Rob had 6. The only way Rob could catch Kevin was to get closer to the pin for the tie breaker and nap the skins.

It didn’t happen. Paul L. was closer to the pin and grabbed 2 skins.

Everyone earned at least 1 skin. However Kevin was the big winner. He won Pig Skin with  8 skins. He also won Big Boy with a -7. Rob was a distant second with a -2. Well played  Kevin. Congratulations.

December 21st, 2018

Five  guys (not the restaurant) showed up for coffee, Larabars and truth filled discussions: Paul W, Jeremy, Jim, David and Rob. Among other things the subjects were the Biblical  progression of different races and languages, God’s majesty in the midst of the pains of life and God’s timing in healing.

The weather person was calling for rain, but by nine o’clock it was clear. However, since the creek was high and the ground was so soggy, some were wondering if it was too wet to play. It probably was, but when Kevin drove up, the matter was settled. Game on.

Six golfers set out to win the trophies. With the demise of Bigger Boy, Pig Skin made his debut to be given for the most skins. Big Boy is now awarded to the golfer with the best score.

Two records were set: most skins earned at one time  and most discs lost in the creek.

Several birdies were shot on the first couple of holes. After pars on hole three, Four skins were riding on hole number four. Rob lost the first disc in the creek beyond four. Jim got a birdie and Kevin saved the skins with a birdie of his own.

Kevin lost a disc on hole 5 and hole 7. David lost a disc on hole 6. Kevin had a chance to take the skins on 6, but missed a long putt.  Jeremy could have earned 7 skins on 7, but also missed a long putt.

The skins were stacked on hole 8 with pars and on 9, 10 and 11 with birdies. Jeremy lost a disc on hole number 12 and the skins got stacked with two birdies. Pars carried the skins through 13 and 14.

So, hole 15 was worth 15 skins. Kevin’s beautiful drive landed a few yards from the basket and when Rob missed his putt, the skins and Pig Skin went to Kevin. Well played.

At that point Kevin and Rob were tied at -4 in competition for Big Boy. Kevin and David both sank long putts on 16, but since Kevin’s was for a birdie, nabbed his 16th skin and took a one stroke lead into 17. Jeremy and David got birdies, so the skin was pushed. Going into 18 it was Kevin -5, Rob -4.

Kevin’s drive was a bit closer to the basket than Jeremy, so he got the stacked skins, giving him all 18 and he finished with a -6.

So Kevin won both trophies this week and he’s the first recipient of Pig Skin. Congratulations

The rain began as the round was completed, so the crew prayed in the garage around the Sebring.

December 7th, 2018

Before the game, Jeremy, Paul W, Paul L and Rob enjoyed some coffee with pumpkin spice creamer and some rich time in the word. Among other verses, they delved into Isaiah 26:3:

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.

Jeremy couldn’t stay for the game, but Kevin joined for a chilly round.

Paul L. was the first to earn skins when his drive on hole 4 landed under the bridge. He was happy to be the holder of 4 skins. Kevin earned a skin on hole number 5 and Rob earned 2 on hole 7. Then the skins began to stack.

After several birdies on 8, Kevin and Paul L. birdied 9. There were 3 birdies on 10 and that brought the skin count to 4 riding on hole 11.

Paul W. had a beautiful drive which landed right under the basket. Kevin tried to save the skins by using his mulligan to no avail. Unless, Rob could sink a putt from behind a tree, the skins were Paul’s.

Rob sunk the putt to push 5 skins to hole 12. Kevin had an excellent drive on 12 and it looked like he’d have the skins, but a putt by Rob pushed the skins again. Paul W. and Rob birdied 13 carrying 7 skins to hole 14.

After a long drive by Kevin landed very near the basket on 14, it looked like he’d grab the Big Boy. The only hope was that Rob could sink a 45 foot putt to save the skins. He did and pushed 8 skins to hole 15.

With a birdie on 15, Rob grabbed the skins and won Big Boy, but the battle for the best score was still up in the air. Kevin was at -7 and Rob at -8. Paul W. grabbed 2 skins with a beautiful eagle on 17. Since Rob bogeyed, he and Kevin were tied at -7 going into 18.

Paul L. had the best drive on 18 and earned another skin. Since Kevin’s drive ended up on the wrong side of the barn and Rob birdied, he won the Bigger Boy.

The morning ended with a season of prayer around hole 19.

November 30th, 2018

Before the game, Jim, Paul W, Paul L and Rob enjoyed reveling in eternal truth and preaching the gospel to each other in our 8 o’clock coffee and truth time.

Chad, Russ and Kevin joined us for the challenge. It was an extremely exciting round with lots of brotherly love.

Rob snagged the first 3 skins with a birdie on hole 3. Paul L pocketed 3 with a birdie on 6. Then Kevin hauled in 3 skins with a beautiful birdie on 9.

On the back nine skins stacked to 5 at 14’s tee pad. Russ launched a beautiful flick through the trees and parked it to claim 5 skins. They stacked on 15. Then Russ claimed the Big Boy with a birdie on 16 giving him 7 skins.

But the battle for the Bigger Boy was just heating up. Both Russ and Kevin were sitting at -7.

Russ had the best tee shot and Chad got to ride the white stallion.

Russ took the lead with an eagle and Kevin got a birdie. Russ -9, Kevin -8 going into the final hole. Both had less than ideal tee shots. Kevin sank a 37 yard birdie to finish with a -9. And when Russ bogeyed, Kevin won Bigger Boy. Congratulations Russ and Kevin.

Paul W grabbed a skin on 18. Rob and the two Pauls tied for 3rd on the score with -5.

We ended with a great season of prayer at Hole 19. Fabulous morning.

October 11th, 2018

Before the game, Jim, Paul L. and Rob enjoyed coffee and verses in Daniel, I Timothy and Romans 4:20.  We were encouraged that Abraham did not waiver in unbelief concerning the promises of God, though he was about a hundred years old and Sarah’s womb was dead. Yet, he believed God and grew in his faith, giving glory to God.

A day after hurricane  Michael sent his rain and winds through Buck Forest, today’s weather was sunny with a nip of fall coolness.  Paul W. and Russ joined us for the Big Boy challenge.

Today was Paul L’s day. He was on point. He grabbed almost all the skins – 14 and shot his best round ever at Buck Forest with a  -9.  Paul W was the only one else with skins and Rob finished a distant 2nd at -4 on the score.

Congratulations Paul L.  Enjoy your accomplishments.

October 5th, 2018

Before the game, Paul W, Paul L. and Rob had a great time encouraging each other with Eternal Truths in light of our temporal troubles. We spoke of 2nd Corinthians chapter 4:16-18 about taking courage as we focus not on what is seen, but what is not seen.

We listened to a song by Lauren Daigle entitled You Say, which speaks believing only what God says about us as opposed to how we feel or think.

Russ and Kevin joined us for the match. Still waiting for the fall nip in the air, but the weather was pleasant.

The match was extremely exciting, with several almost hole in ones by Kevin and Paul L.  and a “fairway” ace as a tie breaker by Kevin. He snagged the Bigger Boy from Paul W. in the play off after both finished with an incredible -10.

A neighbor at the end of the street heard all the excitement and thought we had a hole in one.

The skins battle was just as exciting. going into hole 18, which was worth 2 skins. Paul L. had 5, Russ and Kevin had 4 and Paul W. had 3. We determined the closest to the pin would break the tie. Paul W, Paul L. and Kevin all got birdies, but since Paul L. was closest to the pin, he got the skins, giving him 7 and earning him the Big Boy.

The two Pauls and Rob had a great time of prayer at the 19th hole. Then Paul W. did a little trimming on the course to clear the flight path on 9 and 12. Thanks Paul.

Fabulous day. Hope to see some of you who missed next week.

September 28,  2018

Paul, Jim and Rob had a great time of Coffee and soaking in 2nd Corinthians chapter 5 this morning before golf.

Russ joined for the match. Even though fall has arrived, cool autumn mornings have not begun. Russ, Rob and Jim all used their mulligans on hole number two. Paul jumped out to an early lead for both trophies, but Jim and Russ overcame. Jim took the Big Boy with 9 skins and Russ nabbed the Bigger Boy with a -4.

Well played gentlemen.

September 21,  2018

We’re excited to begin a new season of Friday morning fellowship. Paul W, Jim, Kevin and Rob had some great time in the word at 8. Paul directed us to 1 Timothy 6 and we spent some time discussing the great commandments listed in Matthew 22:36-40. Starting the day with this kind of fellowship is invaluable.

Paul L. joined us at 9 and we decided to offer two trophies each week this season. One for the skins, the original Big Boy and what looks like an Italian baker for the golfer with the best score. Paul L. dubbed the new trophy – Bigger Boy.

It was a bit hot for late September, but we had a blast. Paul W. ended up taking both boys with 8 skins and a -5. Paul W. had the skins trophy in tow early, but the best score came down to the last hole. Paul L. and Rob finished second with a -4.

After the match, we had a great prayer time at Hole 19.

February 24th, 2017

Beautiful weather for eight golfers on Friday. No hole in ones, but we did have a creek diver. Russ, Rob. Paul L, Paul W, Chad, Jim, Kevin and David competed for the infamous Big Boy trophy .

Chad gave up his body for a fellow golfer to retrieve a disc in the creek near basket 5. Sounds like something Jesus would do. Great job Big Boy Chad (He was still the reigning Big Boy when he made the sacrifice.)

Kevin had a great round and took the Big Boy with a -6. Rob came in 2nd with -3 and Paul came in 3rd with a -2. Jim played a great round as well, but didn’t play the whole course. If he had, he would have had a -5 with his handicap. Congratulations Kevin.

As great as the round was, the prayer time afterwards was even better.

February 17th, 2017

Exciting times on Friday for eleven golfers. Paul L, Paul W, Rob, Jeff, Kevin, Matt, Russ, JP, David, Chad and Ben experienced a hole in one, a horse ride and a first time Big Boy champion. We also introduced two new par fours into the competition, holes 1 and 17.

Matt a threw his Buzz in  perfect forehand form for a hole in one on hole 15. The cheers were heard throughout the neighborhood. That’s the 3rd hole in one on 15 this season. Kevin and Paul L have also aced it.

Ben got to ride on the white stallion during his play on the newly designed 17th hole.

The competition came down to the last hole with Chad claiming his first Big Boy trophy with a -7. Others shooting below par were Paul L -6, Paul W -5, Rob -4, Matt -3 and Russ -2. Well played everyone and great job Chad.

February 10th, 2017

Six golfers weathered the chilly Friday morning for an exciting round and awesome subsequent prayer time: Paul W, Paul L, Kenny, Kevin, David and Rob. The previous Big Boy, Matt, couldn’t join us, so we found the trophy waiting for us at the first basket.

The excitement started on hole number one when Paul L flexed his super strength and drove his Tee Bird into a tree. He gathered the pieces and laid them to rest at the feet of what he thought was  a statue of the Virgin Mary. Turns out it was a statue of a wizard, perhaps Gandalf.

Paul L’s Tee Bird laying shattered under a tree.

The exciting battle for the trophy came down to the last hole. Kevin fought of stiff competition from David and earned the Big Boy with a -6. David came in second with a -4 and Rob came in third with a -3. Congratulations Kenny. Since Matt was not around, Big Boy himself presented the trophy to Kevin.

February 3rd, 2017

We had two groups, the oldies and the young boys compete for the Big Boy trophy this past Friday. The weather was cool, but pleasant.

The Oldies included Paul W, David, Russ, Kenny, Rob and Barry, making his first appearance at the Forest. The Young Boys were Scott, Kevin, Matt and two first timers Adam and Jordan.

On basket three Matt buried his disc into a tree.

Matt’s disc in a tree on number three

Matt wasn’t finished with his heroics for the day. He claimed his first Big Boy trophy with a -8. Scott came in second with a -6 and Russ came in third with a -5. Congratulations Matt. Well played.

January 27th, 2017

Friday began the handicap age of the Big Boy Challenge. Averages were calculated and those who had an average score over even par, began the round with a handicap.  From now on, all reported scores will include handicaps. Six golfers enjoyed the chilly, but sunny round: Jim, Kenny, Kevin, Paul W., Matt and Russ.

And the winner was (drum roll) in his first time winning the Big Boy, Kenny. He finished first with a -4.  Paul W. and Kevin tied for second with a -2 and Russ came in third with a -1. Congratulations Kenny.

Ten golfers made it out for the Big Boy Challenge this Friday. The weather was fantastic! We broke up into groups of five. Group one included Jim, Paul L. Matt, David and Chad. Group two included Russ, Rob, Kevin, Paul W. and Ben.

Kevin had an amazing round and took the Big Boy with a -8. Matt came in second with -5 and Paul W. came in third with a -3. Congratulations Kevin.

Next game we will begin using handicaps.

January 13th, 2017

Friday was Paul day at Buck Forest. Both Paul’s had championship days. Seven  golfers played in fantastic weather: Paul W. Paul L. Jeremy,  Kevin, Kenny, David and Rob.

The first excitement came when Paul L. aced hole 15. He sent a beautiful backhand up the hill which sailed right into the basket. We all erupted into joyous celebration. So much so that a neighbor in the the back of our street heard it and guessed what we were cheering about. We were all happy for Paul L.

Paul L. after his fantastic hole in one on 15

Paul W. captured the Big Boy for the second straight week. Rob finished second with a -2 and Paul L. came in third with -1. Great job Paul W.

January 6th, 2017

Eight  golfers made it out for the challenge on Friday, including Chad, who was supposed to be on a plane headed to Israel. His flight was cancelled because of weather and we were happy he joined us. It was a cold morning, but we all warmed up as we started playing.  There was one group including Paul W, Paul L, Chad, Rob, Jim, David, Kevin and Matt.

Paul W. threw from the white horse when his disc landed within 10 feet on basket 17.

And what has become a bit of a pattern over the last few weeks, he who threw from the horse, took the Big Boy.

Paul W. finished with a -4, Kevin came in second with a -1, Paul L. and Rob came in third at even par. We had an awesome prayer time afterwards.

Fourteen  golfers made it out for the challenge on Friday, including newcomers Jack and Trey. The crew was broken up into two groups. The old guys were Paul, Rob, Jim, David, Russ,  Kenny and Jack. The young guys were Kevin, Michael H, Michael B, Chad, Trey, Grey, and Matt.

The weather was pleasant and we had some exciting moments. Jack and Chad both threw from the back of the white stead.

Michael H. captured the big boy with an awesome score of -7. Michael B and Kevin finished second with -5 and Russ came in third with a -3.

December 16th, 2016

Nine  golfers weathered the cold this morning for the Big Boy challenge: Russ, Tim, David, Rob, Paul, Jim,  Kenny and Matt. And we were happy to welcome Chad, a first timer to Buck  Forest.

The Forest was particularly tough today yielding no scores better than +1, but it was an enjoyable round with an awesome prayer time afterwards.

To add to the fun, we were able to enforce the 10 foot pony rule twice for the same golfer. On basket six and seventeen, Tim’s disc landed within 10 feet of the white pony. So, in both cases, he threw from the back of the famous horse.

Tim on his mounted steed

Tim rounded out a stellar day by capturing the Big Boy trophy with  +1. Jim came in second with  +3. Kenny and Rob tied for third with +4.

Six golfers made out to the Big Boy challenge on Friday: Russ, Tim, Jeff, David, Rob and JP, a first timer who did very well for his first time out. The weather was a bit chilly, but once we got moving it was very pleasant.  Several discs found there way into the creek, but thanks to JP’s ‘willingness’ to brave the cold wetness, all were retrieved.

Kevin, our previous champion was not able to join us, but dropped off the Big Boy to find a new home.

Russ had a great round and won this week’s challenge with a -3.

November 25, 2016

Nine golfers choose a beautiful fall morning instead of crowding the streets and stores for black Friday. Great choice!  It was shorts weather and the autumn leaves were magical. Russ brought Michael and Sanchez,  his son and son-in-law, visiting from Charlotte. Kenny brought his son Grey who effortlessly leaped across the creek to retrieve discs on several occasions. Other golfers were Paul, Rob, David and Kevin.

Kevin captured an early lead by birdieing the first two holes and though Michael was on his tail the whole morning, captured the Big Boy for the second week in a row with a -8. Michael came in second  with -6,  Rob had a -2 and Russ a -1.

David earned most improved by shaving 7 stokes from last weeks score.

Russ lost a disc in the grave yard beyond hole 16.

With Grey’s help, Kenny birdied hole 8 after landing on top of the chicken pen.

We finished with some awesome prayer time on the deck by the waterfall.

November 18, 2016

It was a beautiful day for disc golf for this weeks Big Boy challenge. There were 8 golfers: Paul L., Paul W., Kevin, Kenny, David, Matt, Rob and Ben.

The highlight of the match was Kevin’s first hole-in-one at Buck Forest, curving his disc into the chains of basket 15. It was also the first hole-in-one for basket 15 in Buck Forest history.

img_3354

The match was close until the very end. Kevin birdied hole 18 to pull ahead of Matt. Ken finished with -4, Matt -3 and Paul W came in third with -2.

Congratulations to Kevin for a great day all the way around, but we all had a blast dodging trees and marching through the forest. Well, truth be told we didn’t dodge as many trees as we would have liked.

Happy Veteran’s Day from Buck Forest. We began the Big Boy Challenge again today with 6 golfers: Paul L., Paul W., Rob, Ben, Kenny and David. Rather than skins, we are now playing for the best score.

In his first time playing at Buck Forest, Paul L.  won the Big Boy with a -5. Great job Paul! Paul W. took second place -4 and Rob came in third -3.

Russ took home the Big Boy on Friday with a resounding victory. The weather was beautiful and once again everyone took home some “skinage”.

IMG_5627
Turns out the good fortune was for Russ and not Kevin

Russ finished with 9.5 skins. Paul came in second with 5 skins, James had 2 and Kevin 1.5.

Russ  began discipling  Big Boy to  use his gifts to serve the body of Christ:

April 22nd, 2016

Friday’s match was laid back and enjoyable. We had a smaller crowd but great camaraderie  and a fantastic prayer time afterwards.

Everyone took home some “skinage”.

Kevin won again with 10 and a third skins, but it was close until the 17th hole when he pulled away. Rob finished with 6 and a third skins. Matt earned a skin and Chris nabbed a third of a skin.

April 15th, 2016

Though the skin count does not reflect it, Friday’s game was quite exciting. Chris nailed a fifty foot putt through the trees and off Paul’s foot and into the basket on 14 .  Paul sank an equally long putt on 16.

Through the front nine only 1 skin was pocketed. However, Kevin nabbed 9 skins on hole 10 to give him the victory. Great job.

Kevin came away with 10 skins. Chris had 4, Paul had 2, Rob had 1 1/2 and Russ had a half. James and Matt also participated.

April 8th, 2016

Paul made it two in a row, after last week’s rain out. He made some fantastic putts.

Final skin count Paul had 11, Russ 4, Kevin 1, Rob 1 and James 1.

March 25th, 2016

No excitement on skins this week. Paul Wallace dominated the challenge finishing with 9 skins.  Kevin came in second with 3 skins, followed by Russ with 2 and 2/3, Matt and James both came away with 1 and 2/3 skins. We left it up to the 3 partial skin holders to divide the skins. I suggested a Buck knife, but I’m not sure what they used. Oh yeah, Rob and Chris also participated, so they get a participation mention.

But the day was not without excitement. Matt took an involuntary dip into the creek rescuing his dad’s disc on hole 7. Then voluntarily dove in on 16 to rescue another disc. He gets the ‘Most like Jesus’ award for this week.

March 18th, 2016

Another exciting finish during the weekly Big Boy Challenge. Heading onto the 18th tee pad, it was still anyone’s game. Matt, Kevin and James each had three skins and Paul had one. The 18th basket held eight skins and instant victory to whoever could win the hole out right.

And that’s exactly what Russ did. He flicked a driver a few feet from the basket and got the only birdie landing  him the Big Boy trophy for the week. Jim and Chris also participated.

March 11th, 2016

Today’s challenge will go down in history as the most exciting Big Boy Challenge ever. I doubt it will ever be topped.

Here’s how it went down: Going into Hole 16, Paul was leading with 5 skins, Russ had 2 and Rob had 1. Kevin’s drive was within a few feet of the basket and with 8 skins riding on it, it looked like he would claim the Big Boy. Paul was the last to possibly save the skins. However, his disc was clinging to the edge of the creek, 30 or 40 feet from the basket. Kevin was probably already thinking of where to display Big Boy. But amazingly Paul sank the putt pushing the skins to hole 17.

Several folks birdied hole 17, so that meant hole 18 was worth 10 skins. 18 is typically a push, so we were all thinking we were in for another “over time” playoff round.

Several golfers shot before James stepped up. He decided to backhand his Valkrie between the trees towards the basket, which is placed just beyond the front on the barn. We all watched it sail straight for the the basket, but just a tad left. Incredibly, it bounced of the side of the barn, just below the window and right in – A HOLE IN ONE!

We all yelled and James feel to the ground in ecstasy. Russ pretended to pump his heart to shock him back to reality. It was a moment you write sport’s novels about, a comeback for the ages.

Afterwards we all (Matt, Chris, Kevin, Russ, Paul, James and Rob)  had a great season of prayer.

March 4th, 2016

Today’s challenge was the closest yet. We played the three extra holes and 3 participants could still claim the trophy. We decided to play hole two with a tie breaker being the drive closer to the basket. Both Kevin and Rob birdied the hole, but Rob’s drive was about a foot closer.  Kevin finished with 6 skins. Other participants were Matt (4), Paul (2) and Chris.
