From opposite corners of the property, northern cardinals call out their bright cheer‑cheer‑cheer (don’t be impressed; I have a bird‑ID app).

Just outside our porch door, the rhythmic murmur of water flowing over rocks in our man‑made mountain stream settles my soul.

I turn my thoughts back to scripture where I’ve been researching the drink offering, an ancient sacrifice of liquids to the Lord.

The Drink Offering

The other lamb you shall offer at twilight, and shall offer with it the same grain offering and the same drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord (Exodus 29:41).

The drink offering signified dedication and consecration to the Lord as an act of worship. Something valuable, like wine, was poured out unto the Lord.

I’m interested in the drink offering because of something Paul wrote in his letter to the church at Philippi. In this letter Paul speaks of joy when it comes to being poured out in loving service to his friends.

But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me (Philippians 2:17-18).

[2187,1343
1153,2195,3358,1717,2849,299,1916,420,2188,2197,1474,2107,119,2193,1355,1718,877,2189,2095,1002,2017,945,170,39,1491,58,1047,1600,2192,2850,3618,510,1349,271,7,950,419,989,2194,2190,2012,3621,1072,1345,2196,1428,3617,15,3620,630,1215,1990,3619,81
post-7993","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-loving-like-jesus","category-the-joy-of-serving","tag-abiding","tag-abundant-joy","tag-aussie","tag-being-poured-out","tag-beyond-time","tag-bible","tag-cardinal","tag-complete-joy","tag-consumed-with-jesus","tag-contagious-joy","tag-cool-breeze","tag-courageous","tag-crucifixion","tag-depending","tag-drink-offering","tag-empty-ourselves","tag-eternal-joy","tag-exodus-2941","tag-experienced-joy","tag-galatians-522-23","tag-god-with-us","tag-gods-greater-purposes","tag-gods-love","tag-gods-nearness","tag-gods-perspective","tag-gods-presence","tag-grasping-gods-love","tag-greater-purposes","tag-guidance","tag-hope-remains","tag-jasmine","tag-jesus-christ","tag-john-1334-35","tag-john-159-12","tag-joy","tag-joy-in-his-presence","tag-joyful-heart","tag-keep-on-rejoicing","tag-love-overflowing","tag-numbers-617","tag-our-highest-joy","tag-our-sake","tag-overflowing-joy","tag-philippians-217-18","tag-philippians-25-9","tag-poured-out-as-a-drink-offering","tag-propane-tank","tag-rejoicing","tag-souls","tag-strength","tag-strengthen-faith","tag-the-holy-spirit","tag-wholehearted-surrender","tag-yielding
["GET
